Not just Couch Potatoes

4/17/2017

While Greyhounds are known for their racing skills and their retirement life as couch potatoes there is another career they are becoming known for.  Service Dogs.

With their calm and gentle demeanor, greyhounds are perfect for emotional support, PTSD support and assisted living visits.  Imagine the smiles and happiness they can bring to those that are unable to have pets in their living facilities.  Bringing greyhounds for a visit brightens the lives of the residents, greyhounds and their owners.  Being tall provides easy reach for those that are bedridden and most greyhounds accept wheelchairs without fear.

As greys have a desire to please, they can be trained to provide support, meeting many needs.  We have adopted greyhounds to families providing the support to live life with more confidence.  It is a winning combination as the adopter has a friend to be at their side at all times and the greyhounds have a loving forever home.  Greyhounds are low maintenance.  They do not require an excessive amount of exercise, grooming, and only need mitting to remove excess hair periodically. They are content to lay by your side as long as needed and  are typically healthy.

If you or anyone you know is considering a support dog, please consider meeting a greyhound.  It could be the beginning of a new life. We would be happy to introduce you to our available hounds that, we feel,  would excel at this new role.
